M. Pierre Boulez
Director
IRCAM
31 rue Saint-Merri
75004 Paris, France

Dear Pierre:
\J
Thank you for your letter of February 11. I have been able
to get a replacement for my classes at Stanford for next fall so
now arrangements for my stay in Paris can be completed. I will
be very happy to set up my music printing system on the PDP-11 and train
some of the IRCAM personnel in its use. To minimize the problems of
running this on a smaller machine I will prepare an all-FORTRAN version
of the program here during the spring. I have made good progress on
a detailed instruction manual. This should be ready by next fall.

I presume my pay and transportation costs will be set at
a figure similar to that used during my 1979 stay, with suitable
increases to make up for inflation, etc., since that time.
My wife will be coming to Paris with me so it is important that
I can find an apartment similar to the one I had in 1979. The one
at 7 rue de Venise was ideal for my needs. Might it be available
again?

I plan to leave California near the end of August, first
going to England, where I will stay about two weeks. I will
arrive in Paris on Monday, September 7, or on Tuesday, September 8.
I plan to leave Paris on December 12.

I will enjoy very much working on this project at IRCAM.
